Galloway is an area in the south west of Scotland which includes the counties of Wigtonshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, and part of Dumfries-shire that is controlled by Dumfries and Galloway Council.  The tartan was designed by Councillor John Hannay of Dumfries c.1949-50,
