The city takes is name from the celtic ‘Glaschu’ meaning ‘beloved green place’. It is said to be the name given to it by St Mungo from where he began his missionary work. It has been a surname as in John de Glasgow, chaplain of Camelin, bishop of St Andrews (1258). The Ulster anglicised version is said to be McCluskey. The tartan from the1800s woven by Wilson of Bannockburn is in their 1819 Key Pattern books.
