Caledonia

Latin: Caledonii
Caledonia is a popular tartan from the eighteenth century and appears in a number of guises.  Romantic stories are told of its origin but in reality little is known.

It has been asserted that it never had a name and was referred to as 'Wilson 155'.  This is the design number taken from the 1819 Key Pattern Books of the weavers Wilson of Bannockburn.  However by use and usage the name Caledonia has been adopted and is a 'Universal' tartan that can be used by anyone.
