Manx

Motto: Quocunque Jeceris Stabit (Whithersoever you throw it, it will stand)

Manx refers to the Isle of Man, a large island in the Irish Sea which is a self-governing Crown dependency. The inhabitants are of Celtic origin.  In the 9th century the Norse people began to settle there.  Magnus III, the King of Norway, was also known as ‘King of Mann and the Isles’.

In 1266 the island became part of Scotland, as formalised by the Treaty of Perth but reverted to English control in 1399, but it has never become part of the United Kingdom.  Eleven designs exist for this tartan.  Designed in consultation with Dr D G Teall.
