William Anderson and his two sons ran a well known tailoring business in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. In 1868, with trade increasing, they decided to progress from their partnership by forming a Limited Company, thus founding the Kinloch Anderson Company.

Based in Edinburgh’s famous George Street, Kinloch Anderson became renowned throughout Scotland and beyond, as Scotland's premier civilian tailors. In 1903 Kinloch Anderson first supplied the Royal Family - King Edward VII.

Prior to the advent of the First World War, military tailoring developed as an important part of the business, with officers' uniforms being tailored for all of the famous Scottish Regiments.

William Kinloch Anderson, introduced ready to wear men's clothing. As many other tailoring businesses declined Kinloch Anderson thrived as men's outfitters and specialists in Highland Dress. Granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment as Tailors and Kiltmakers to King George V.

During the Second World War provided many of the uniforms for the Scottish Regiments in various tartans. Granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment as Tailors and Kiltmakers to King George VI.

Frequent visits by WJ Kinloch Anderson, the fourth generation, to Canada and USA. In order to meet the increasing demand in the post war period, particularly in North America, a Wholesale Division was established to supply clothing and accessories in tartans and tweeds.

The growth of manufacturing quality men's and ladies' clothing, primarily for export to North America and European countries. Granted Royal Warrants of Appointment as Tailors and Kiltmakers to HM The Queen and to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

Kinloch Anderson (USA) Ltd established in North America. First visit of Douglas Kinloch Anderson, the fifth generation, to Japan, where the men’s and ladies clothing business was expanding. In 1979 the company was awarded the Queens Award for Export Achievement.

Corporate Identity Division, produced the Corporate Uniform for British Caledonian Airways and continues providing exclusive tartan identities today. First brand partner appointed in Japan. Granted Royal Appointment as Tailors and Kiltmakers to HRH The Prince of Wales.

Brand partners appointed in Taiwan and Korea. In 1999 Kinloch Anderson won the Award for Business Excellence for Edinburgh and the Lothians. Moved to new premises in Leith with shop, office and production facilities.

John Kinloch Anderson, 6th generation, introduced the online shop. Launch of Kinloch2 in Korea: the younger man's fashion brand for Kinloch Anderson. Brand Partner appointed in USA.
