The Kiltmaker Series - Pleated to Sett

The Whisky

Created to celebrate the vibrant history of the Port of Leith and its links to the whisky industry, Kinloch Anderson have collaborated with Whisky Consultant Blair Bowman, Master Blenders Woven and the Leith Export Co to curate this first limited release blend - Pleated to Sett. The first in The Kiltmaker Series - a collection that celebrates the heritage of Kinloch Anderson and its 150-year history with Leith and Edinburgh.

Pleated to Sett is offered in two bottlings – 70cl (£75) and 10cl (£15) with only 540 bottles of the 70cl bottle. Bottled at 46.8% ABV, without any artificial colouring or chill-filtration, Pleated to Sett is a fresh and complex blend of flavours that have been perfectly blended, before being further ‘married’ in hogshead casks, to bring additional harmony to the whisky’s flavour profile.

Pleated to Sett celebrates the company’s roots as we have worked tirelessly to create a product that intertwines the craftsmanship that goes behind both whisky and kilt making. The name itself draws inspiration from a kiltmaking expression used to describe a seamless tartan pattern through the pleats of a kilt. Just as chalking ensures each pleat is intentional, the precise artistry of blending selects distinct flavours with a deliberate purpose and finesse.

Sustainable Packaging - Whisky Off Cut Bag

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. With this brand new whisky, Kinloch Anderson wanted to create something meaningful to minimise waste. Therefore, we committed to plastic-free packaging and created a bottle bag using tartan and velvet offcuts from our kiltmaking and manufacturing processes.

Our fabrics are crafted from the finest threads, and we saw an opportunity to give them a new purpose. The result is a beautiful, reusable gift bag that not only enhances the whisky inside but also tells a story of heritage and craftsmanship.

Tasting Notes by Blair Bowman

Endorsed by whisky expert Blair Bowman, who has been instrumental for the creation of Pleated to Sett, this launch offers a sip of Leith’s vibrant whisky legacy, once known as Edinburgh’s whisky district.

When tasting our whisky, Blair defifined it as a refreshing and complex experience. Exceptionally well-balanced, it opens with bright, grassy and citrus notes before evolving into layers of fruits, nuts, and spice, offering a rounded, creamy mouthfeel that complements the long, lingering finish.

Nose:
A burst of fresh, grassy notes evokes a summer meadow, followed by hints of zesty citrus peel and a touch of floral complexity with lavender and honeysuckle.

Palate:
The initial grassy character leads into a wave of nuttiness reminiscent of toasted almonds. Layers of fruit unfold, revealing hints of apricot, plum, red berries and more fresh citrus. A subtle
touch of warming spice, like cinnamon and a hint of ginger. The whisky boasts a rounded, creamy mouthfeel.

Finish:
The finish is exceptionally long and satisfying, with lingering waves of spice, fruit, and nuttiness.

All About Leith

Pleated to Sett is a homage to Edinburgh’s historic Port of Leith, which according to the Leith Annual has emerged as one of the most industrious, creative and distinctive neighbourhoods in the world. An area that was once Scotland’s gateway to the world has slowly rebuilt itself as remarkable furnace of opportunity and culture, home to a community that wears its heritage and reputation with pride.

Working on the project has highlighted a beautiful community network that shines through the whisky itself.

In the picture below, we have paired Pleated to Sett with the Leith Tartan designed By Kinloch Anderson Today in 1995 to support the Tall Ships event. SInce then, the pattern has been formally used as the district's tartan.
