In the UK alone, more than 30% of the clothing produced ends up as landfill waste, much of which is made from plastic based materials and can take up to 200 years to degrade.
It is an epidemic of grand proportions that will require the concerted efforts of many to make a difference, including our own. At Kinloch Anderson, we have always seen it as our responsibility to keep the sustainability crisis high on our radar as we work to continually make better conscious decisions and produce products that can in some way help to reduce this waste.
Kinloch Anderson’s ethos over the past 150 years has been to create clothing that is exceptionally well made, using the very best quality materials to ensure the garments will last more than one lifetime. The vast majority of our products are made to order, eliminating excess waste as fewer raw materials are consumed. Our commitment to incredible quality, also allows our products to become robust, sentimental heirlooms for generations of families to wear and enjoy – a long-standing tradition of The Kilt that we are proud to keep alive.
In celebration of World Earth Day 2021
Our new sustainable range of pet beds that were launched last week in celebration of World Earth Day represents an important step for the company as we continue to seek out innovative green solutions that will make a long-term impact on the luxury products we produce as well as the lives of those who choose to purchase from us.
The range includes three styles of pet bed; one fully washable in a herringbone tweed top and tartan sides, the second 100% wool tweed, and the third 100% wool tartan. The inner core of all the beds is made from Quallofil® Blue, which is made using 50% recycled plastic from Plastic Bank – a globally recognised, leading solution to stop ocean plastic, whilst helping people living in poverty to build a better future.
Kinloch Anderson and Plastic Bank
At Kinloch Anderson, we are committed to reducing the number of single-use plastics within our production areas, and where we can't eliminate them, we are seeking alternatives and recycled materials.
The goal of Plastic Bank is to prevent plastic waste from entering rivers and oceans in regions that do not have efficient and formal waste or recycling systems. Through using materials collected by Plastic Bank, we are one step closer to building a sustainable future.
In using this sustainable material, we have created a range of pet products that will give your pet cosy and comfortable support that will last a long time, whilst maintaining its original appearance.
Next steps for Kinloch Anderson
At Kinloch Anderson, we want to play our part in reducing waste and reversing the single use trends to give the next generation a beautiful and clean world to live in. As such, we will continue to make conscious decisions that contribute to a more sustainable future, with the mindset of green innovation and sustainable product development.
